#1 Success Secret: Building Self Esteem

Everyone yearns for the trappings of personal success, no matter what they may claim. So it stands to reason that everyone’s looking for the ’secrets to success’ that seem to be so elusive to so many.

Self esteem, or rather lack of it, is  a major stumbling block. Even if it’s on a subconscious level, feelings of unworthiness are common.

Let’s get one thing straight here: YOU are worthy of success. YOU are good enough to succeed.

Dwelling on negative thoughts will drag you down, making you hesitant and unsure. If your lack of self esteem is extreme you may need coaching to help you develop a healthier outlook, one that will enable you to finally start making headway with personal relationships, your business or career and every other aspect of your life.

But what can you do to nurture your own self esteem?

  • First, it’s important to realize your not the only one with a low self-esteem problem. Most of us suffer to one degree or another.
  • Get rid of the guilt. Either admit to yourself that you have done something wrong and fix it, or accept that you are feeling guilt for something that you bear no guilt for. I’m not telling you to ignore your conscience. But guilt is a sneaky feeling that makes us feel bad often for no reason at all.
  • Build a support network of positive people around you. Distance yourself from those who magnify your feelings of low self-esteem. If someone needs to make you feel insignificant in order to feel good themselves then they have no place in your support network: you don’t need them.
  • Failure is not a permanent state. Everyone fails sometimes, even the most successful people that ever lived. And they would all tell you that having failed was nothing more than a stepping stone to success.
  • Every time you find yourself in a situation where low self-esteem is holding you back, take the time to list all the reasons why you deserve to succeed. List your past successes and give yourself permission to feel good about them. Include even your small successes: Any major achievement is nothing more than a series of smaller successes.
  • Finally, as I mentioned, if you find you’re not making the progress you’d hoped for, enlist the help of a personal coach to help you identify and tackle the reasons for your lack of self-esteem.
